As part of our Team Spotlight series, we ask Judith Schroeter, Head of Product, about the challenges of her role and what drew her to working at SparkChange.

Q1. What are some highlights from your professional career?

"The best moments in my career so far have been when I’ve been able to make a difference. Making a difference comes in many shapes, if it is analysing and forecasting carbon markets that had not been understood yet, guiding a PDF-focussed business through a digital transition or just asking that one question that sparks a new, exciting idea.

The most rewarding experience is to make a difference to a team, giving them the support, they need to develop in a way they didn’t think was possible to start with.

These highlights are not all clearly visible as a new platform or a new feature. At the same time, they continuously drive me to work hard to continue making a difference."

Q2. Why was Spark Change a match for you?

"Climate change is a large issue for the world in the decades to come and we will need innovative solutions solve it. We can’t live in a world with continuously growing carbon emissions and at the same time we have an economy that is driven by investment strategies that do not account for that. I truly believe that bringing carbon markets and the financial sector together to drive the transition to net-zero investing will be a key to fight climate change in the next years. And I want to support SparkChange in making that difference."

Q3. What are the key challenges in your role?

"The carbon market is permeated with many good ideas and is always evolving, making it hard to keep sight of potential opportunities. I want to bring focus to the needs of our customers, ensuring we ask ourselves how will SparkChange's solutions make a difference to the financial sector and aid the transition to net-zero investing?

At the same time climate finance is full of misconceptions, misunderstandings, and false promises. Brining clarity and simplifying complex themes will be key to drive adoption of any solution. So, if anyone needs an explanation on the difference between offsets and carbon allowance, my seven years of carbon market expertise will come in very helpful for net-zero investing."
